(New Orleans) The Great American Seafood Cook Off Invites the Best Chefs in America for a Seafood Showdown!
The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) commissioned our team to conceptualized and produce a cook off event to showcase domestic, sustainable seafood. The Great American Seafood Cook Off aired on Food Network and PBS. See video above.
I had the honor of producing and emceeing this event for one decade. The Great American Seafood Cook Off positioned the Seafood Board as the leader in the United States. Win, lose, or draw, it gave us the opportunity to provide New Orleans hospitality to the best chefs across America exposing them to Louisiana seafood. Our simple goal was for our visiting chefs to have the best time of their lives at any event they have ever been a part of.
The Great American Seafood Cook Off led to the creation of state qualifier cook offs across the US, including our very own – the Louisiana Seafood Cook Off.
What made it work?
We treated the chefs like rock stars. The night before the Great American Seafood Cook Off, we did a dine around to three of New Orleans’ famous restaurants via two chartered busses with our chefs, sponsors and four police escorts on Harleys and sirens blasting. We made the event a ball for them from the moment they arrived. That set the tempo for an amazing event!
Keeping the event lighthearted and honoring our participants, we crown the winner King or Queen of American seafood. The media and press exposure the winning chefs receive catapults careers. One of our winning chefs even went on to work at the White House for the Presdient.
