Navy Seafood Cook Off to Benefit the Homeless and Veterans
Join us once more as New Orleans Chefs partner with the Executive Chefs from 8 allied Naval ships representing the United States, Canada and Britain on April 26 for a Seafood Showdown!
The Navy Seafood Cook Off will be held at the Spanish Plaza at the foot of the River Walk…opening ceremonies start at 11am, and winners will be announced at 1:30 pm.
On behalf of the City of New Orleans, I’m honored and excited to serve as emcee and produce this this prestigious event with Ashley Stagg of NOCCI that benefits a special cause! Chef Duke Locicero of famed Cafe Giovanni’s in the French Quarter will join me on stage to emcee as well to keep things moving.
We are shining a spotlight on non profits that help the homeless, at risk youth, and hungry in our region by partnering the visiting Naval chefs with chefs from the New Orleans Mission, Liberty’s Kitchen, Cafe Reconcile, Cafe Hope, and Jack & Jakes Public Market and Giving Hope. Joining the competition will be Celebrity Chefs Keith and Nealy Frentz of Lola (2012 King and Queen of Louisiana Seafood) and Chef “Smitty” of Joey K’s.
The panel of judges includes top military officials (three Rear Admirals and one LT. General) from the ships, New Orleans’ very own US Marine Chef and ACF Sergeant at Arms Chef “T” Walden, and Susan Ford, publisher of Louisiana Kitchen and Culture.
The ships are open to the public for tours starting April 24th. To learn more, visit www.NolaNavyWeek.com Very special thanks to the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporationfor making NAVY WEEK happen.
